Default Racher AT Recall

From Highlifter.com forum:

The Rancher AT recall has started. Dropped mine off today,
there are few things they are checking, after they replace the ECU. The dealer said they have to run some tests and depending on the results they will be looking at the clutch.
FYI:
I just stopped by the dealer to ask them if they knew about the recall and they told me they just got in the part today. So don't wait for your letter in the mail. The dealer said parts are limited right now.

Anyone know if this is true!!!

There isn't anything on the cpsc.gov site. Why would Honda limit replacement parts on a recall? They would know how many parts would be needed compared to the number of atv's in the recall.

You could call your local Honda dealer and ask them. I would wait for a letter.

Sounds like someone is trying to start something.

I think production speeds will limit availability. They can't just crank out thousands and thousands of parts all at once and ship them, it all takes time. Even when you know how many will be needed.

TylerZR2,

That was my post from highlifter.
This recall is true call your dealer or check some other sites this has been in the works for while. And the reason its not listed on the cpsc.gov site from what I understand is beacuse it's not safety related, it is a performance issue thast honda is correcting. And you could wait for the letter if want. I was just giving you my situation. I went to the dealer (service Dept.) just to verify for myself if there really was a recall and he told me he had just got the part in that morning and he only got 1 and was not sure when more would be in , So I went home picked up my Rancher and took right back.

So I was just giving everyone a heads up.

Hope this might help you.

Thanks Yo!

Yes there is in fact a recall on the AT.

The ECM will be replaced, but parts are scarce at this time because of production being down for the model year, and the move to carolina. It's isn't on too many machines though. It's actually part of the very first batch that was release i think the last six digits should be under 000116.

The honda site just keeps getting worst. Honda has made it so you can't lookup recall info on specific quads. When I log-in it only wants to give me info for my specific quad or model. Of course Honda wants you to pay to be a member. I got a free membership that I will not renew.

Check all the posts! Honda seems to have a lot of problems with the electronics on its automatic transmissions. These are bikes that I am trying to like, but no way now would I own any of them! I would buy a foot shift Rancher 400 in a minute though.

The 400AT came out just before I bought my Foreman. I had considered buying an AT and was caught up in the hype for a little while. In the end, I had to go with my gut feeling and buy a 450S. Now, I'm glad that I did.

I'm sure Honda will sort everything out. I'm just glad that I don't have to be a part of the sorted.

I can verify that there is indeed a product improvement campaign on 400AT's. I have not seen the official bulletin, but our Honda DSM was in and notified us about two weeks ago. He had a copy of the letter being sent out to owners. DSM's don't tell the dealers it's official unless it's indeed official. My understanding is Honda is replacing the ECM's on all 04 AT's. I'm not certain if there is a VIN range or not. It helps to understand the mfgs. terminology regarding these things. People throw around the word "recall" alot. Recalls are safety related. Customers receive letters with the word "recall" in bold print on them. Owners are required by law to get a "recall" done. Then there are product improvement campaigns. If Honda considers them important enough, customers will receive letters, but are not under any legal obligation (they aren't safety related) to get the work done. The last level is a simple service bulletin. In this case the issue is published to the dealers, but customers don't receive letters, and the work is done when a failure occurs or on a case by case basis. There are also issues known to Honda but not in any published correspondance to the dealer. The only way you find out about these is to call Honda tech services with a failed unit. If you have a 400AT and it's working OK, I would wait for the letter, or check the dealer in a few months. If you have a problem 400AT, contact your dealer and get in line for the work.
