Default 450R 1st gear to high.

Hello everybody,
I just joined today and rode my new 450r today and can i say HOLY $HIT this thing runs!! I have'nt riden atv's for about 14 years and i go and throw my leg over this thing,i must have a death wish! The power is insane on this thing.I was GRINING from ear to ear when i went threw those gears.Anyway to what my post is about, my only problem with it is first gear is very high geared,it's almost like a second gear instead.I'm sure this has been talked about before but i did a couple searches and could'nt come up with anything. So what can i do to make 1st gear a little lower?Sprocket changes, tire size? What have any of you guy's done?

Drop a tooth on the counter shaft to 13 from 14. You will lose top end speed, but do you go 80 on a quad alot? I did it and for $25 it helped alot.

Yeah, changing the front out for a 13-tooth seems to be a proven mod. I'm suprised you didn't find anything in your search, there's been quite a few posts about it. Congrats on the new bike.

Get a new pipe, filter and cam and first gear wont be too high anymore. But until then ya, you might want a 13T. Itll wind out to fast if you add any mods with a 13T front.

Depending on what conditions you ride in your could get 18" tires for the rear.

Thanks for the replies guy's.I probably won't be doing to many mods right now being i have'nt riden in a while. This thing has plenty of power for me right now.One more question,is there enough adjustment in the chain or do i need to plan on taking a link out?

Dropping to a smaller front would definitly help. Unfortunatly that makes high gear to low. Im sure someone will come out with a different 1st gear for the tranny so you will have the best of both worlds. Until then just rev the crap out of it.

if i were u i would replase the hole chain assembly. when u put a new sprocket on an old chain, it will distroy the sprocket. also if ur sprocket was better than ur chain, it will do the same thing because they arent wearing the same
