Well here we go is there anyone else out there with this symptom. I have 300 miles on the Rubicon now. Yesterday it worked as always flawless. Went to ride today and i got a surprise machine won't shift in esp mode at all and will not shift thru the automatic. It will drive but it will keep your speed to about 5mph.The gear position indicators is indicaticating that their is a problem by a blinking sequence. Shop manual indicates that this is an electrical situation i am in the process of trouble shooting now. Has anyone had anything like this so far. Drop me a line if you have any ideas.Scott

Mine has 350 miles and the only problem so far was a sticky choke (which really isn't a choke) that I fixed myself.I'd get that Rubi back to the dealer rigt away! Keep us posted on what you find out.

Only have about 50 miles on mine, but no problems at all. Sounds like a computer control chip may have a glitch or something. Have you had it in deep water or anything extreme? I'd definitely get it back to the dealer though. Post it here when you find out what it is.

My first guess (being the optimist I am) would be that a wire or sensor came loose, and so the computer just locked the tranny into a safety 'will-get-you-home' mode. Hopefully it's something simple like that, but if not, at least it's still under warranty.

Just run it by the dealer.

Have you tired disconnecting the battery for a minute to see if it resets the computer? Not really a fix, but it might help trouble-shoot whether or not it is internal or electrical. Just a thought, I know this has worked on some of the 450ES's.

As others have suggested & so will I, take it to the dealer.

However check all of the sensors to make sure they are clean & have good contacts. I don't know how many the Rubicon has but my Rancher has three of them.

After reading manual on trouble shooting the electrical system the problem lies in the speed sensor. I have spent 12 hours solid checking and rechecking connectors and reading up on this machine in the shop manual. For those of you that dont have one id suggest you pick up one. For those that are mechanicaly inclined that is lots of good tips and informative info.
Also i did notice that i had water in several of the connectors so they are not that water tight, water gets in but doesnt drain out. The mechanic at the place of business where i bought the machine will take a look on Monday. For those that are interested when your machine has mechanical troubles you will get a blinking sequence at your gear selector meter. The number of blinks in succession indicates possible problem. Honda corp did do a fine job in designing this machine with the trouble shooting guide lines. I'll post a update when it gets out of the shop.
Thanks for the input, Scott,

That is cool how gives a trouble code without a special tool. I have pulled codes out of Toyotas and chev's, it litterly tells you what the problem is Good to know honda used there head! The New Toyota Tundra truck also has a Limp Mode to drive on if the throttle sensor fails.

There are electricial sealent sprays out there that waterproofs electricial fittings and components so you do not have trouble like that again in wet conditions.
