Ok, well I can definitely say I'm new to this. I'm looking to upgrade my 400ex without having to put the bore kit in it. I was reading a dirt-wheels forum when i came across something that interested me. I want to put an 11:1 Ross Racing Piston kit in the 400. Now the quad is stock other than a full dmc alien exhaust that i just got. I have a filter/airbox coming too. And i was wondering if i could put this kit in it without having to purchase any other aftermarket materials: cams, etc. ***And, where can i buy the pistons at??***
thanks for the help!!

The owners manual states to run premium gas (92 octane) in the 400EX in its stock form. 11-1 compression is the highest compression you can still run premium gas with. You might want to go with 93 octane, if you can get it in your area.
For pistons, call C&D Racing, and talk to Colby-308-696-7805. He'll tell you all you need to know. They also have the best prices I have found for engine mods, and most other mods, too.

In reply to cals400ex:
I really dont care what bore. The highest i can get out of it without having to put tons of money into it. Probably the highest i can get is a 406, 416 at the most with 11:1 piston kit from Ross Racing.
Any other input on this situations would be greatly appreciated....thanks to those who have replied!

C&D is in nebraska.
i would say a 406 or 416 would be the most reliable. you will probably need to get either 10.6:1 or 10.8:1 with these pistons. you can always run thinner gaskets to raise the compression a bit. i ran a stage 2 hotcam and it was great. i only had it for about 8 tanks of fuel though. i have a new one (some of the old ones had problems) but the new ones are fixed and work great. by the way, i ran this in a 406. this cam made the bike want to rev out to the moon. i now have a new motor so i might consider selling the cam if your interested.
