I own both and I prefer the z/kfx over the ex just a little bit. Either way u will have a good bike. I would have to say the ex is definately tougher.

Amongst our group, there's a Z400 (mine) and a KFX400, and two 400ex's. I would choose the Zuk over the Honda. To me, the Suzuki is a much more smooth, comfortable ride. And there comes a time every trip where I'm glad I had reverse.

The ground isn't always level on a trail. I've found myself pointing down a steep hill where the trail was washed out, a tree has fallen across or you just need to go backwards. It's a lot easier to put a quad in reverse than pull or push it up a steep incline. Got to go with a quad with reverse. In this case it would be the Kawa 400.

it depends on experience and budget.

they are both fine bikes

the kfx is liquid cooled and more powerful

If it is your 1st bike,,,,,get the EX (can find em cheap used) they are good sturdy no- nonsense bikes

If you are more experienced,,,,you would appreciate the KFX a little more

i own both and it really depends on what you like. i live in tennessee and i never have trouble with the ex over heating. for 05 the ex is gonna have reverse so you cant really throw that into play.and the suspension setup on the z/kfx is stolen from the 400ex so no it sont have better suspension. oh yeah if were talking about 05 then yeah i guess the z does have better suspension my bad. ummm i think the z is a little heavy in the front end compared to the ex. there both easy to get up but the 400ex stays up a lot eaisier and i think it comes up quicker . trail riding there both awsome
