Which quad is better for Harescrambles and trailriding? I like the look of the Honda, but the motor is supposed to be more powerful. Which one would you choose, please don't be brand loyal!

The Liquid cooled, KFX400 with reverse is a more powerful, updated 400cc quad.

I own a 400 ex and I recentley owned a KFX 400. The Honda is a lot more reliable when it comes to riding in the heat, the KFX frequently broke coolant lines, and I even bent an axle trailriding. The KFX is faster in stock form, but some simple mods to the ex and now I am dusting the KFX whenever, wherever.

I bought the very first Kfx the dealer had and have had it ever since then. I have put that thing through hell. I have ridden it on all types of terrain and not taken as good of care of it as I should. Sad to say but I have neglected it and It has taken everything I have thrown at it. I have never had any problems with it.

Brutis is right, i have a z400 which is exactly the same as the KFX apart from differnt colour and headlight surround. i also bent my axel in a big crash, but i managed to bent it back with the help of a press at 6 tonn... apart from that the bike is fery sound. added extras such as the water cooled engine and reverse make this bike more apealing.
Handeling is much the same and suspension is said to be better on the z400.

I'm not to partial to 4-wheelers but it doesn't take a rocket scientist (no offense) to figure out liquid-cooling and reverse are a must for those long haul's and the trail U-turn's ( I'd rather be lazy and sit on my quad and turn it around with just the turn of a button and the click of a shifter then be getting off and doing it the old fashioned way)

I pick the EX for really tight trails, where you want an engine that will lug down. I like the Z (same bike as the KFX), for more open trails/country. The Z engine likes to rev, and does it's best work at higher RPM than the EX. Both have excellent handling, but the Z has a lighter feel.

If you get a Z, wait for the 05. If you get an EX, don't get the 05, get an 04.

I agree completely, go with the KFX.
