You need to be carefull about these type of tests. Yes they put the FMF Q pipe on, but they also took the air box lid off and rejetted the bike. They even said it did not require the bike to be rejeted-just recomended. I wonder if they put the stock pipe back on minus the lid plus the jetting if the pipe would make any difference other than the noise? Just something to think about.

If you ride mostly in the national forest, this would probably be a good choice. No doubt, it isn't getting the max that you could get from a (loud) performance pipe, but you are getting a big sound reduction. Both my 400's are way to loud, and are going to get a "quietcore" insert as soon as I have time for a rejet. I ride the EX in the San Bernardino Mountains, and the muffler it presently has got damaged in an accident, so I do think I will be replacing it with a Q sometime in the near future.
On the other hand, a hot bike like the 450 needs a hot pipe! On it, I am going to go with the FMF Factory-4 full system (I have the PowerBomb header on both my 400's, and it is great). I WILL run the quietcore insert however! In the August Dirtwheels, they tested slip-on pipes for the YFZ, and the Factory-4 slip-on came in at 95.1 dB, enough to pass the 96 dB rule here in Calif. Good enough for me.

In the majority of cases, stock will most likely be quieter than the Q. I hava a Q on my 250R and it really didnt make it any quieter than the silencer that I took off (it was a non-stock silencer). It changed the tone of the bike, but didnt make the db go down. It looks good on the bike though.
