Default damn carb problems

i have an 86 350 fourtrax 4x4, and i need to put another carb on it that works right without having to spend a lot of money. so i went to a web sit and can get a mikuni carb for it but i dont know if it will fit. and i called the number and they told me to get a tm 32-34 but will it work right if i put it on. or should i go ahead and pay $400 for a new one. the mikuni is only $190. its a trough decision to make so i though id see what yall thought about it.

Have you tried cleaning the original carb already? I would'nt buy another carb unless necessary. An '88 model is gonna get pretty gummed up...especially if it's been sitting.

I asume all of those little passageways in the carb have been cleaned good? Brake cleaner does great for me. Are you getting spark? Have you checker your rubber intake boots that connect too the front and rear of the carb? Did it just die on you one day or has it been sitting?

Have you checked your fuel tank? Maybe a rusty tank is the culprit....those had a metal tank. Clean the carb and it fills back up with debree??

i rode it yester day, and it ran good but wouldn't idle screw and i've tried every thing to fix it. the idle doesn't do anything, neither does the mixture screw. but when your in gear and ride it and hold the throttle itt will run good. but it just won't idle. and it will hang ever now and then.

I am trying too remember how those were set up. Is'nt there an access cover on the left hand side of the carb, that comes off with 3 screws? Behind it, you can look at the throttle mechanism and cable too make sure it's functioning properly? Sounds like maybe just an old cable or the cable is splitting / breaking where it connects too the carb underneath the access cover maybe??
