I got my Rubicon back today. I rode it all evening and it gave me no trouble, however,What I was told at my Dealership did not help my feelings at all.
This is not intended as a shot at Honda in any way ,understand I am a faithful Honda owner and I will get another (probly a 450) if I cannot regain some faith in my 500. I am just frustrated at the answer I got today.
I was told that the computer(they called it something else)was replaced and then they proceded to teach me a so called "reset"code ,which I saw in another post on here earlier. This was not what I wanted to hear. I do not want to have to stop and "reset" this things computer while on a ride with my friends. I was told by the shop manager that he had spoken to someone at the plant(10 miles away)and they had said that Honda was aware of the problem and was trying to find a solution to it but as of yet had not had any luck. A recall was not out of the question if the problem turned out to be widespread ,they had not as of yet gotten to that point though. My confidence in my ride is not to high at this point, I am thinking seriously of taking a beating on a trade in and getting what I originally wanted a 450 ES.

.Thanks for letting me vent my frustrations.

As a fellow owner I can sympathise with you. My Rancher also, has a computer. My worry at every manufacturer tries to out do each other these quads are getting so complicated that you can't work on them.

RUBBY
Understand your frustration but you must remember this is new machine and there will be problems. Some times the dealer is most of the problem but in thier defense they to are new to it.Sounds like you'll not be happy till you have 450.CM

What are the steps for the reset? Also, did they mention anything about it having to do with the first or second release of the Rubicon? Or was this just a farse...

Thanks!

Sounds like you need a little dose of patients. This doesn't appear to be a life or death situation, and it appears that Honda will correct the problem when they find it.

Sit back and chill out, there's no reason to go out and do something stupid (eg. take a beating on a stepdown trade-in) that you'll regret later....

As a faithful Honda owner, this has me worried as well. Is the Rebicon really worth the $$$$ for these troubles I'm hearing? I ordered one and I should have it by Mid-September. I would rather back off and wait a year or two and have a trouble free machine.

Has the Ruby gave you any problems yet?? prolly not right as what i read it hasnt gave YOU any problems, i say ride that hog till you cant ride it no more, and if it DOES give you trouble i would definatly wait till a later model has come out and all problems fixed.

Mine is being ridden every day and I am not having any problems. If you want one get it, but if you are worried don't. Don't sweat over that much. Many other choices are availavle. I am confident that Honda will stand behind any problems that might occur.

Can't speak for the Rubicon but when I got my 2000 450ES I was one of the 'unfortunate few' who had trouble with the ES which also messed with my speedometer. I know your frustration.I was fortunate enough to have an excellent Honda dealership work with me.These guys were in BC Canada and were great! My dealership I bought the quad from didn't display too much interest in helping me so I would never step foot near them again--located in Bremerton WA--longgggg story) Anyhow, hang in there. Hopefully the dealership is being supportive and cool with you. That makes a huge difference.I ended up taking my quad back a few times before I got all the bugs worked out. I haven't had a problem since (it was a faulty speedometer sensor that faulted the ES system)

"Honda will stand behind its product." This guy in Canada kept telling me this and sure enough, they did.It may take a bit but I'm certain they'll get a fix for the problem..At the time when I was having the above problem, I felt like I made a mistake going with the ES.I was strongly considering going to the 450S. I am very glad I stayed with the ES. Once the 'bug' is fixed, I'm certain you'll be happy with your Ruby. It still sounds like an awesome machine to me...Hoping to get one in the next year or two...

Fishbone.
