called curtis sparks today and tc racing, they say that I need to do a bigger carb with the 440. Anyone out there have a factory carb on their 440? I know that ct racing sells the midrange kit 440 without a carb.

MR PRESIDENT,
Since most clubs with a PRESIDENT generally include a board of directors or at mimimum, a secretary, vice president, & treasurer, would you mind providing us with their names?
Also, in your grocery list you failed to include any mention of handlebars or grips; or do you have another hi-tech means of navigation?

Sounds like Curtis wants a new house. No you don't need a bigger carb with the 440. I think having a bigger carb will increase performance, but that's want, not need.

I am running the 11:1 440 piston in my 400. I also use the Webcam midrange cam, and I run the stock carb. I have a Dynojet kit in it, and it has recently been taper-bored. I do not know that I would recommend the bore job to the stock carb as I do not believe I gained much with it. It was only $50, so I gave it a try. It didn't hurt anything, but as I mentioned, I do not believe it did much.

Back to your concern. I think the bike runs great with the stock carb (jetted correctly). There is probably something to be gained by going to a larger one (39mm maybe). I figure that is my next step. I have been watching for more info on the Edelbrock carburetor. Let me know if you have any other questions...I have made all of my mods myself (except for actual machine shop work)...so I am glad to help if I can.

I agree with Slyder...
our(the husband's) 440 has a stock carb and runs GREAT!!! We(he) run WB mid-high rev cam. 11:1 piston too. A factory carb is not a MUST if that is your concern.

I have the 440 kit with factory carb. It runs great. The larger carb will only help on top end, which is not what most are interested in.

Going to the 39 FCR [YZ 400 carb] will make a huge difference. Not only does it come on much stronger from the mid on up, more importantly, it revs alot faster.

I am running my stock carb w/ my midrange 440kit and it screams. Im neck to neck with my brotherinlaws banshee. The guys at CT racing are Xtremely opiniontive and tried to tell me that works shocks suck. Don't listen to them and get that 440. If you want a pic of my bike email me at speedDemn440@aol.com

I would say go with the Lectron 38 carb. It has been proven to pump out more hp than any other carb, including the 39. The only thing is that after every race you have to take the Lectron apart and clean the slide and body. But it's worth the hp increase to me.
