Default ES failure

The shift system on my '02 recon es stopped working a couple of days ago. I can get it to work if I take out the manual shifter and jiggle it back and forth. Anyhow I was wondering if there is any common problem like a bad connection or a bad sensor of some sort that I can fix at home or if I should just drop it off at the honda dealer. any advice would be appreciated thnx

The battery could be discharged, charge it up and have it load tested.
Check for proper oil and amount in tranny. If its due for a change....do it.
Do the clutch adjustment, its the nut and screw at the front of the motor case. This will usually get it going again.
