I would get the 400ex, nothing is too big for anyone. You are in control of the throttle and if you think you can't handle going full bore then you can stop yourself, don't buy something small and not have enough hp.

Here's some good advice.

For a Beginner atv i would suggest either a Yamaha Warrior or a 300EX. Between those 2 the 300ex will be worth a lil more when you get ready to step up to a bigger one. For someone of your size i would suggest those two. The 400ex isnt some racing speedin' atv. But for a first time rider like yourself its got alot of power and can get away from you if your not have way experienced with ATV's. The 300ex's have less power a lil smaller and should be nice for you. I have owned a Warrior in the past. Also a great starter atv. It's hard to beat the Ol' Warriors.

the probalem we had with the small atv's and even the 300 is when out riding the 400 has enough power to keep the kids out of trouble when they get stuck on a hill that is where they get in trouble and i've seen it with a lot of new riders they try to follow the other riders and get in trouble on a hill due to not enough power and take a roll down the hill, this is all in the sand of course which take power and robs it quickly.

i would suggest a 300ex but i am 15 and have a 426EX with high comp piston and carb and cam and full system big gun so it depends on if u want to take it easy and get used to it the ride it it is a asome quad(400EX) but the 300EX is a good begginer quad.
