Rancher 4x4 ES Shifting Problem
#11
Well that is what they told me
He said that the shifter arm breaks on some of the ranchers, mine was the second Rancher that had been brought back that the same thing happened to it. They said we did not have to pay a thing maybe they will make it stronger or something. I do not want this thing to keep breaking every 520 miles... That is awful you pay $5400 for something and it tears up in a month and a half, I take very good care of it..

billy, you're lucky that is the only problem you have with the tranny. Listen for a whine in high gear and if you hear one, beat it to your dealer. My 350 had this condition and my trans bit the dust. Verrrrrrrrry serious damage.
Just a warning.

Max, you have mentioned this problem that you experienced before. Having read most of the topics/posts related to this issue it appears that you are the only one that has had this problem of the people who frequent this forum. Is it fair to suggest that it might have been an isolated incident? One would expect that if there were a significant problem in this regard that we would have seen additional posts by this time given the large number of Rancher owners.
On the other hand, if you are indeed correct and anyone whose Rancher whines in 5th is about to lose a tranny, then there are going to be a lot of unhappy people (me included) because my impression is that most Ranchers have this sound. Incidentally, my dealer advised me to not worry about it as he checked with Honda and they said it was normal.

tempest, I think it is fair to suggest that my trans problem is of an isolated nature. However i feel it is fair to warn anyone who has a quad with the same symptoms, of a possible failure.
Thank you for softening your aggressive approach in replying as you as much as called me a liar the first time I reported this incident.
In the future i will continue to attempt to help those who i feel can use a friendly tip. It will please me to believe that there will be no further transmission failures with the 350 Rancher.
To answer TXdoc2, yes I have parted with the Rancher in favour of a 425 Expedition. Unlike many, I have no brand favourites.

Hi Beast450 (love that name!!).
I bought both of my bikes from Sutherlands. Mick uses me great. Of course it helps that we race for him in the winter.
I haven't been on any of the local rallies this summer. In fact I haven't put many miles on in the past couple of months. I expect a big change in that respect real soon.
I do most of my riding in this area (Crow Hill, Woodstock, Nackawic, Springfield, etc). How about you?

Fair commet Max. My first response to you certainly could be construed to be aggressive and/or assertive. However we both could be accused of that. If my memory is correct (and there is a first time for everything) you referred to the Rancher as a "whining piece of s***" (or something to that effect). You also stated that your dealer said it was a frequent occurence with the Rancher.
Given that no one else on this forum, then or now, has mentioned having experienced this problem I think that your post was a bit aggressive and/or misleading. Similarly, stating "... you're lucky that is the only problem you have with the tranny. Listen for a whine in high gear and if you hear one, beat it to your dealer. My 350 had this condition and my trans bit the dust." is also a bit misleading or at the very least alarmist.
I think that it is great that you want to leave hints, tips or whatever for the general benefit of all. I also think that that is the intent of the vast majority of the folks here on this forum. However, referring to a bike that many people here own as a p.o.s. is not a step in that direction.
Just my humble opinion, but you do have my assurances that, in the future, I will try to refrain from inflammatory responses.
