Are you sure about that JRM, the float is made out of plastic and i really dont want to break anything... it sounds like it would work but i really would know... anybody had experience with this??? Its and 1987, with a 125 main jet and 35 pilot, that doesnt matter though... thanks guys, anything else would be of help too... later

yup acording to my book the early 250x came with the KEihin QB29 carby

...main jet was 125
....slow jet was 35

so they are the right ones!

suggested main jet size for high altitude (3-8000 feet) is 120.....but that is useless info for most

ya needle jet should have the clip on the third grove up

.....i puzzled........it sounz ok.......

ummm, well see theres one problem thats even more mind boggling, the clip is in the second position from the top, since it was running rich before i even started tearing down the top end, i moved it up, it seemed to help, but not enough... soooo im thinking either that float thing that someone was talking about, or getting a smaller main jet...... thanks guys, anything else you could think of, carbs are so dumb...

BigDogX, when holding the carb upside down, if the float is hanging kinda low, thats the problem. It should be level with the carb body when upside down. The plastic float should be connected to the metal clip that holds the float valve. the metal is what you need to bend (downward)as you pull the float upward. Adjust it by bending it easly until the float is level. this will keep the fuel level lower when everything is put back together. You may also want to buy a new float vavle as long as you have it tore apart. After this fixes your problem you most likley will need to put the needle clip back to stock possition
