Default 400ex Parking Brake

I'm having a small problem with my parking brake. When i adjust the parking brake tight enough to where it needs to be, it sticks. Meaning when I set the parking brake then reaease it, the little lever on the caliper doesn't spring back releasing the brake. I can press it with my finger and it will snap back. When I adjust the brake looser, this doesn't occur but the brake doesn't hold that well either. I am adjusting the nut on the rear caliper. Whats the deal? Anybody else had this problem?

yea i had that exact same problem. they get gunked up so easy it's ridiculous. the "mechanic" at the dealership wouldn't let me watch what he was doing to clean it out so i don't know what he did. he did say that he had to take it all apart which was a big deal and spray wd-40 everywhere. he did it free though because they considered it a defect in the design. so after a few times there it works fine.

hope that helps a little : /

Exactly the same thing here too! The only time I use the parking brake is when I'm hauling the bikes on the trailer. I have to remember to go back and pull on the little lever, or it won't release. It actually never worked very well from the day it was new, and when it got dirty, it was all over!

Remove it! You will always have to be adjusting it and you don't need it. It will always be a PITA!
Get a block off plate and remove it.

welll i use it when the bike is in the back of my truck. I don't want it rocking back and forth on the gears the whole time. No big deal, I'll just have to remember to manually release the brake with my finger in the future. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. Thanks for the info.

Strap your bike down and it won't rock back and forth on the gears.

Same here, just block it off you'll never need it.

It's a very bad idea to leave a bike in gear while transporting it. As the bike moves slightly back and forth, the gears will ***** against each other and eventually you will do some harm. Very good idea to KEEP your parking brake for transporting the bike!
