Default How I solved my ES shift problem

I also have a 00 450TRX Foreman. I use it for hauling wood, plowing and riding. I have almost the same symptoms as your machine except the shift motor tries to shift but won't complete the shift. Then sometimes it won't shift at all and other times it shifts slick as shi_. Anyway I was checking all the electronics @ the Clymer manual and they say to check the shift motor with 12v to see if it works. Well before pulling the motor and checking I checked the voltage to the motor at the plug and found I only have 7v. The supply at the ECM is 12v and the ground is good (little 5 wire plug at ECM). Do you know if this the correct voltage?

I have to go plow a foot of snow with the foot shifter now. Man I'm aggravated and I quit smoking this week too.

Thanks for the ZD info I'll check in my spare time. Hope you are having more fun than me. Have a good one!

Did you notice that the original post is 3+ years old????

There are even more ES problem posts now, than there has ever been at any time in the past. The magazines need to publicize this, and embarass Honda into doing something.

There is a recall on some components, but obviously the problem is more serious than that. Honda needs to step up to the plate and take care of everyone with ES problems, then improve it or just take it off the market.

Recon, thanks for the update. I didn't look at the year just the date so I thought it was three months old. So again thanks. Are there any other posts that you know of that you think would help?
Back to shoveling.

give it a rest reconranger, you see the recent post regarding 450s trouble? you were in shock and assumed the guy was wrong (you thought he really had an ES). Too bad it's likely he will have to split the case to fix that one.

not a lot of people are utd on electronic troubleshooting and many more ES machines are sold, it's no wonder there are more questions. You ride with some Sorels on your feet (or frozen feet) and tell me how you like a foot shifter.

I can tell you that I miss my hondamatic big time. If Honda needs to step up on anything it is ride quality. I'd trade a Hondamatic for my semi-auto in a heartbeat. There is absolutely no comparison in any aspect of performance, I'm even more sure of that now.

and stop saying all ITP/Carlisle radials are the same tire with different tread, they are not.

Regards,
Mike

Im an electronics tech and that was confusing, I have about the same identical problem you stated, any simpler explination and if you have the manual can you point out the pages of schematics to use, I will try to decipher you message once again, but I am sure I have the same exact problem

So are you saying it was the Zener Diode, where was this found, do you have a component designator number for this part. ?

Thanks
anxious to get mine fixed.
