I have an 86 250R and have found a great deal on a set of 400EX plastic. Will the 400EX plastic work on my R? How much modification is needed? Would I be able to use the R seat? Are there any pics of those which have been done this way/articles??

THANKS
The GeneralG

i can 100 percent guarantee that 250r plastic fits a 400ex so i would imagine that they go both ways. 400ex and 250R chassis are exactly the same w/ exception of round vs. square tubing. But i am almost positive that you will have to get a seat for a 400ex. i recomend you get a graphics kit and seat cover for a 400ex and get those plastics, then find a newer looking 250R sticker and put it on the tank to make it look like a 00' 250R. That would be trick. If that works out for you, send me a pick please.

I have looked into putting 400ex plastics on my 250R. 1st thing you have to do is keep your 250R seat other wise it wont work because the 400ex uses a different mounting style. 2nd you must make extended mounting brackets for the top mounts and rebend your bottom mounts or make new ones. 3rd you have to cut a slot for your kick start just go with the same style as your factory plastics do. Last you may have to find some way to mount the front fenders around the gas tank?

I remembe seeing this in a magazine from last year. Somebody sells a kit to do this mod. If I can find the magazine I will post back here with issue and page or if you can wait a few days I can scan it and send it to you, that is if I find the magazine.
