REMOVING axle on 400EX HELP
#1
I have been trying to remove the axle off of my 400EX for the past 40 minutes, and after all of this time, all I have to show is a nothing. Just a lot of cussing, sweeting, and cussing. I cant remove the axle nut. I am using one of those 24inch cresent wrenches. I have been turning the outer nut out towards the right wheel, but it gets so far and stops. PLease help me.

hehe... yo you are turning it the wrong way!!! check out www.atving.com then click product review then goto the durablue x-33 axle. it tells you how to take it off It took me about the same amount of time to do it also until i checked the prod reviews it is hella hard...
Continuing on, the loosening of the axle lock nut assembly may require the use of adjustable pipe wrenches if a large enough wrench is not available in your toolbox. Once loosened, back off the nuts along the threads in the direction of the brake caliper to access the snap ring for removal. When the ring is dislodged from it's setting, the axle lock nut assembly and ring will slide off the end of the axle.

Skunky is correct - both the lock nut(inner) and the axle nut are Left-hand threads. Top of nut will move towards rear of 4 wheeler, which will move both nuts closer to the brake disc. Then you will see the snapring. Remove it with a screwdriver & the 2 nuts & the threaded sleeve will slide off the axle, provided you have removed the hub. Luck
