Has anyone installed a rear light/back up light on their ATV? I was curious of what type of light did you use and what kind of switch and where did you mount the switch. Would it be best to just ground the light and tap into the front headlight wiring to send power to the rear light? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

I have used generic (Wal Mart) white lights, but I used a relay($2-3) of the type used for fog lights. Use the wire from the reverse light to ground & activate the relay. Presto, a back up light that comes on anytime you are in reverse. Dennis Kirk sells a kit for this, but you can do it much cheaper on your own (well, you and Wal Mart or Advance Auto). Most 4 wheelers have an auxillary hot lead somewhere in the headlight/keyswitch area that you can tap for juice.

I have a 450 ES and I bought two of the advertised back up lights. One from Cycle Country and one from HL. The one from Cycle Country was a joke. The one from HL was better but it was destroyed in a minor crash. I opted to copy several of the guys who have pictures of their quads in Readers Wheels section of the HL Forum. I got a lighted toggle switch from NAPA, a generic 12 volt tractor light and 8 ft of wire. This is a great flood light, the lens is rubber mounted, costs $12.00 plus $2 for the lighted toggle switch. I have not found a need to go through the hassles of wiring the thing into my reverse switch. Several of the "Big Dogs", you know, the guys with money to burn with every poss. modification made to their bikes, run this setup. Try it--you'll like it!

I installed a pair of Warn ATV trail lights for backup lights. They make a single for a backup light, but I wanted redundancy. They only pull 25 watts each, but they are very bright.

I just used a little automotive driving light for mine. I wired it through a cheap little toggle switch and directly to the battery. Bolted it up under the upper rear frame out of the way under the back plastic to the right of my storage box. Real simple, nothing fancy, but very effective. Mainly use it for backing up the ramps at night. You could do this a million ways. I opted for a cheaper way.

I just put a back up light on my Recon today. I just bought a 35 watt Rubber Encased Flood light from a truck stop and made a bracket to bolt it on. Then used a toggle switch, and connected it to the low beams wire. It works pretty good considering it only cost me like $10.00
