Honda should build a 450R for trails
With wide range gearing (ala the CRF450X/250X) and an autoclutch like the Rekluse. Otherwise the bike handles superbly on trails.
I know some will cry out for electric start and reverse, but I think most of those who ACTUALLY ride the bike, will agree that we do just fine without these! We have done that topic to death, so lets limit our comments to the merits of an autoclutch and different gearing. Thanks!

I don't think we need a 450R for trails since thats not really what it was built for. We just need the 400EX which is already a great trail machine but it needs more power and still keep its willingness to lug down and keep on pullin.
Or if they made a 650EX that had a nice even powerband that would sweet. I'd say just leave hte 450R as a high revving race bike.
Real men don't need reverse

The 450 is by far the BEST TRAIL FRAME I have ever ridden! The engine likes to rev, so an autoclutch would be the easy solution to that problem. It is geared way tall so you won't wheelie it out from under you, but here an autoclutch would help also, because it would ease on the power. And, a gearing change of course.
I do however agree that the 400EX is also a great trail bike, and the motor is perfect for for the trail. If I am going for a trail ride, I certainly would take my EX rather than my R. But for a trail rider with only one bike, they are going to have to mod it for trails, at least until we get a response from Honda.
Clearly Honda considers the CRF450X and CRF250X to be trail bikes!

They did make a 450 for the trails, because it sure as hell isnt for mx. I think it makes a much better trail bike. Gearing changes necessary.
If you ride the yfz that much, then you will be rebuilding way too often. Yfz for the track, trx for the trail.
