I was reading a review on the rubicon, and something clicked and I remembered what seemed so familiar about the ruby's transmission. I have a 88 JohnDeere420 and It has the same type of Computer controlled system hydrostatic transmision that the rubicon has. 12 years, lots of work, and pulling with no problems at all. It has two ranges, an engine speed control (RPM's), and one for the gear ratio's. I assume that it is essentially design as the rubicon has. Also has some other stuff that would be cool on utility atv's including on demand differential lock, and PTO's for a brushhog/other stuff.
