You should put a parachute on it when you through it out of an airplane. It will reach a 100mph just before it hits the ground. LOL

Anyway I guess it could happen but the wheel base it to short. My buddies 416 is to squirly for me.

Dumba$$. Dont come crying to us when you are laid up in the hospital.
If I wreck, I wreck. I am not going to come crying to anyone. I have wrecked before and I am sure that I will wreck again. Wasn't a patch of ice involved with alltoys' crash?

And no, you wont get a 400ex to do it without a heck of a lot of modifications. There isnt enough power.
I do not own a stock 400EX, if a stock Raptor can hit mid 90's with only gearing changes, then I think I should be able to get somewhere near there.

And the gearing calculator is theoretical. It doesnt account for road or air drag, rider weight, etc.
I know this, I never said I could hit the 100mph mark. I said that I might be able to hit mid 90's if I can hit the rev limiter in 5th gear, which is close enough for me.

This is something that I have wanted to attempt for a long time, just never got around to it. 90mph is only around 12 - 15 mph from where I am now. For the power that it has in 5th gear I think that my 400 can do it.

Like I said earlier, its just an experiment and it will probably end up being fun. It doesn't really matter if I hit 90, 100, or 75, it's just something to do and it should be fun.

Will the 17 fit? I use a 16 and it is getting tight in there.

Why not use the 416 instead of the stocker.. and take your fenders off, or cut them help reduce drag.

I am not sure. I am trying to find out the biggest I can go. Sidewinder said that an 18 tooth is the largest that will fit and it is a very tight fit.

I am not quite sure what you mean by use the 416 instead of the stocker. The quad I plan on doing this to is a 416EX. My fenders are stock and cut and I was thinking about taking the back plastic off and seeing what that does.

Hopefully by this weekend I will have accomplished close to 100mph on a 400EX, if everything goes as planned.

When I put the new sprockets and new chain on I can't get the adjustment of the chain right. with a link removed the chain is too tight and with the link in the chain is too loose the carrier dosent make up that big of a diff! can someone please help with some ideas of what could be going on.

The 400ex has nowhere near enough horsepower to turn the gearing you need to hit 100mph you would need some serious horsepower and engine rpm to hit 100mph see when you go to higher gearing your rpm will come down at full throddle and you need the power to compenste for that along with a high reving motor. if you lose 1000rpm (and I think you will lose more) im sure your engine will not be in its peak horsepower curve, it's the same with a outboard motor if you add a higher pitch prop you should get more speed but if you go too high you will lose speed/rpm as the motor cannot handle that load if you increase the engine horsepower than you could be back in your peak horsepower and max rpm. Your power to wieght ratio comes into play as well you need to make the bike as light as possible also one thing people forget about is wind resistance the 400ex is not very aerodynamic you should lower it and add some kind of skirt as low to the ground as possible around the front similar to a nascar car and that alone will increase your top speed but STOCK you probably won't be able to go much higher on the gearing I would try maybe a 2-6 tooth smaller gear on the back and you would be lucky to push that if you want to go bigger from there you will need to go with a bigger front sprocket but I think you would have to dump big bucks to get a lot of horsepower out of a 400ex engine. best bet would be to drop a streetbike engine in that revs to 15000rpm and has 100hp and then you could turn those gears

The only reason I am jumping in is that I saw that Ish416 said he could pull wheelies at 65, I say
BULLSH!T. No fourwheeler without being HEAVILY modded is going to do that, especially a 416ex.
