Honda problems!
#1
Had the quad for 2 days now and some problems are starting to show up. One, I took the drum off to look at the rear brakes, and they looked good and fairly clean with some brake dust. Well I adjusted them to were they was tight and rode it. After applying the brakes they stick, and wont let go until you go a couple of feet, so I had to loosen them up. The second problem seems to be a little more severe. The boot that covers the u joint in the rear shaft, just as it is leaving the engine, has a cut in it. Oil is leaking through this cut, and it only leaks when the quad is running. It is not a fast leak, but a slow drip. I believe the problem to be a leaking gasket. What do you guys think? Also, I do not want to have to do anything to it till the end of deer season. I just don’t have the time, and I like to do all my maintenance work myself. So, will it wait four months till the end of the season? I don’t think that water will be able to get in, because of the higher oil pressure in the engine. Overall the quad is in good condition, other than the above and the valves needing adjusting I am happy with it. Thanks for the help.

It is not grease leaking, it is oil. Should the saft there have oil in it like the rest of the quad? I believe it is leaking out of the trans, were the shaft leaves the engine, and it is flowing out the boot were the cut is at.

What year is that rancher? Should be a seal, in the crankcase, where the shaft comes out. And you should replace it and the rubber boot. If oil is coming out, i means it isnt going to keep stuff out either. You could wait to fix it, but try to not let water or dust and dirt in. A temporary fix, would be to seal up the cut, to keep stuff out, until you have time to put in a new seal.
