leaking oil 2004 gpscape
#1
Just got my 2004 400at serviced for a computer recall on the auto tranny. Says it wasnt shifting properly at certain times. So i took it to the dealer where i bought it and got it done. Took it out for the first time since i got it done and it will not shift past 3rd gear......no power to it and its leaking oil from the back of the motor. IM really upset now.....it worked fine before i took it to the dealer. Now im figuring that the trans might be cooked because of it. I had ran it down the trail for about 2 miles and then took ti back to the camp and loaded it on the trailer. Im so pissed off now. Ive only had it for 4 months now and its runnin like crap. I checked the oil and it is down some. I feel like calling HONDA and telling them how crappy their dealers are. I have to call tomorrow to tell the dealer about the problem. Should that be covered under warranty???..........cant believe i put all this money into a new machine and now i got a big *** problem....any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

hey man, ive got an 04 rancher too, 4600 kilos on it and mine is leaking oil fomr the back of the engine too. apparently its coming from inder the pull starter case, if u go right under the machine u'll notice a small drain hole, that'll be where its coming from. i foned a repair man fome aorund here and he said i probly blew a seal. it'll be a hell of a time to get it there forsure.if u end up fixing it wanna let me knwo if thats the real problem? thanx alot. hope this helps.

just took it in this morning and they gave me no hassle and i explained what went wrong with it. Then when i told them about the oil leak behind the pull start, the other mechanic said......do u think we have a problem now?? i guess others came in with the same oil leak.....ill let u know more when they call me.

That's a shame you're having problems. It wouldn't hurt to contact Honda so they know what is going on. Do you have any warranty time left? Really it comes down to the dealership. They need to look at the quad and determine what the problem is. Then they need to contact Honda to see if they'll cover it. Honda might need to send out a rep. to look at the problem. If things go bad then you might want to write Honda a letter. Good luck.

Great, I was just getting ready to take mine in to have the ECM changed. I think I will wait a few more weeks to see if a few more oil leaks pop up before I take it in. And to think I bought a Honda for reliability. Man, I knew I shouldn't have bought a first year quad.

hey man, same here, bought it for the reliability. now once an awhile the front wheel squeeks, bearing i guess. i can do a pretty good wheelie now, and its pretty darn good in mud. i like the machine but not the reliability. anyway if u figure it out let me know. thanx

forget to say this, had a 97 foreman 400 before. 10000 miles on it, revved and drove it like sh** never even had one problem. started great everytime, had water, snow, and mud upto the racks time and time again, never failed once. the only thing was my buddy hit me from behind with his sportsman and an oversize bumber at a good speed so i sold it and got the rancher. i lvoe the rancher, the reliability isnt great so far tho.

The oil leak was caused by a faulty O-ring and gasket. IT was repaired under warranty and the ECM module didnt take the programming right so they done it 4 times to make sure the programming took hold. That was why my quad wasnt running right and wouldnt go over 50 km/h. All is ok ..........they treated me great and i have no complaints now.
