Yeah don't worry its kind of hard to hold 6th gear on the 86's because they have different gear ratio's than the 88-89 (best for duning)

My bike has a full drag port, custom dome, 39mm carb, boysen cr250 reeds, im running 12/39 gearing and I cannot pull 6th gear hard. Though I weigh more than you (290) my bike pulls HARDEST in 3-4th gear and that is with 20" sand skate II's. With 22x11x10 10 paddle extremes I cannot hold 6th at ALL.. it will just bog like a ****, atleast with the 20" paddles it holds it but doesnt pull at all.. i lose speed. Though im trying to sell it so a lighter person would probably haul *** on it.

Default 86 250r cant hold 6th gear

Ok guys... I got a 12 tooth front sprocket, a Boyesen rad valve, and a brand new 36mm PJ jetted by Duncan racing. I am hoping this will give a gain for me at the dunes. I am going to go ride tomorrow and will let you know how it does. Anyone know how much of a diffrence a brand new 36mm PJ will give me over the stock worn out 34mm? thanks

My 86 did the same thing with Sand skate IIs. It had a few aftermarket goodies on it like a 39mm carb, K&N with no lid, and full FMF. It would not wrap out in 6th and would loose speed. After decking the cylinder to get more compression, a mild porting job, and bored to a 265, I do not have this porblem.

Socal, If your quad smokes when you first throttle it then it's not a main jet. It's either the pilot or needle. Plus if it was to rich it wouldn't smoke. The smoke is either the oil your running or the mixture.

Ok i went riding with all the new goodies and it is running great. Only complaint i have is i was having trouble keeping the front end down in 3rd gear. Thanks for all your help everybody, I guess the next thing i will do is get a pro circuit pipe.
