I only run a different pilot jet in mine during the winter, stock in the summer. Ever since I did the 440 kit, it is real tempermental, but I love it other than that.

Ok ,so what your saying is that the outside temp messes with the jetting ?It can get pretty cold here in Wa State .Are you running a stock carb ?If so, and realizing it is a pain to dial it in ,the quad will still kick some butt ??? Im trying to avoid having to spend the big $$$$ on a edelbrock ,or FCR ,but I suppose if I had to I could take a second mortgage out on my house and get one . On the air/pilot screw ,do I just leave that at the stock setting ?I believe it is 1 1/2 turns out ??Or do I have to mess with that thing too ?

Thanks for the info ,

Oh yeah the temperature has an effect on jetting, more on some than others. I have a tock carb and it wasn't to bad to figure out bu tonce you got it close, it only needs minor tweeking here and there. The stock carb will be fine, you will just get a lot more power out of a bigger one. Your air screw is just for adjustments on idle and a little bit of throttle, just adjust that accordingly.

Thanks motox26 ,what size main and pilot are you running ?Do you do any dune riding? If so ,will it climb pretty good up the nasty steep dunes ?Thats about all the kind of riding I do ,and a occasional dirt trail .

I can't remeber exactly,
but if a 140 is stock pilot, that is what I use in the summer, and 142 in the winter. I think my main jet is 162.

I don' t dune ride but I do climb some wickes hills, sometimes completely vertical at some points, and it does great and doesn't bog as long as you know how to ride.

i wouldn't go over a keihin 165 mainjet. you need to lower the stock needle clip to the 4th position and also put in a 42 or 45 pilot jet. also, your fuel screw needs to be turned out more. this is why it is backfiring when you let off the gas.
