Please Help!!! My 400 EX Quit and Won't Start!!! Did I blow it up???
Yes I did remove the rev box and I switched it with the stock one but it still wouldn't fire up. I am going to get the compression checked today. I am sure that it has lost compression so this means bad rings/ valves right? As for the oil, it was probably low to start with. My dumbass didn't check to make sure. This will never happen again as I have learned a lesson here. Do you think that the extra revs from the rev box and the lack of oil caused the engine to overheat? It isn't seized up because it is still turning over and when I put my hand on the end of the exhaust I can feel that it has at least some compression, but it feels weak. Hopefully the test will tell me what I will need to replace. If it is going to be $600 then I will go with the big bore kit. This should be able to withstand the higher rpm's from the rev box an most anything that I throw at it right?

i dont think the rev box really had anything to do with it,the fact that you were low on oil and running lean is why you blew it up.put the rev box back in get a rebuild ,make sure your oil is full and the carb is jetted right and you shouldnt have a problem..

Take it to a shop that has a good reputation in your area and you should have no problem. They can install a 440 kit, set it to proper jetting and tell you anything that you need to know/do at that point. If it is a valve then it will be a little more trouble but if they have it for some time and say they aren't sure what is wrong then keep an eye on them. Trust only experianced mechanics!!! I know guys that can tell you what the problem is even while sitting at the shop and you are puzzled about one you are working on and you tell them it is doing this and that... Tell them what you have tried and they will say, "check this" and problem solved... Ask the actual guy working on your Honda the questions in person and go from there. You should end up coming out ahead in the game if you where already thinking about a 440 kit, and if you had a lot of hours on it anyway... CHECK ALL YOUR FLUIDS BEFORE EVERY RIDE!!!

Yes, if you know anything at all about them and have the tools and are mechanically inclined... It will just take you a little longer but be a lot cheaper.

Remember with a 440Kit it depends on what piston you get. If you get the 12:1 you need to run race gas. Make sure you get the 11:1 then you need to run 91. I am pretty sure there are other things to look out for in the 440. I have heard lots of problems about heating issues. You might need to buy a bigger oil cooler and air scoops.

Thanks alot everyone you have been very helpful. I have decided to go with the big bore 440 and I am having the top end rebuilt. I am going to put in the 11:1 compression piston and I am also going to have a Hotcams stage 2 put in to help it breath better. Does anyone know about the 440's having heat problems? Isn't there a liquid cooled conversion kit available? If so how much does it run and is it easy to install? Would I be better off going with a bigger oil reservoir from UM? Does anyone know where I could get one fairly cheap?
