The instructions for my new Ramsey winch say to mount the solenoid within 2 ft. of the winch, and to get the point across the cables are exactly 2ft long. Where have the rest of you mounted your solenoid, regardless of brand ? Does the solenoid get too hot to mount to a plastic surface ?

I purchased a new 04 Honda Foreman 4x4 a couple of months ago..First thing i did was to order a ramsey winch and full body armour. I ended up mounting my solenoid on the frame underneath the right side, when sitting on the atv, tank panel. I removed the panel and found a mount hole already there that worked great for one mounting point and used a plastic tie-strap on the other to mount it to the frame. the plastic bows just a little when re-installed, but if you didnt know it, you would never guess. The solenoind doesnt get hot when used as instructed. If using the winch for a long distance, run the winch in a few second pulses instead of a steady pull. This location is high up on the atv in case of deep water as well..Hope this helps.
