Actually, quite a few people will tell you they like the '86 the best. Although it had some flaws (com'n it was the first year!) they are said to have the most power. Their frames are also known to be a little stronger because of a few extra gussets. These are things I've heard so if they are wrong don't feel the need to make a page long post correcting me so that you can show everyone how much you know about 250R's like so many people seem to do on these forums. LOL!

I also hear the 86 is the best also. The 88 is the next best. I have had 2 86 and loved them. SOld the old stocker for the one I have now!! IT is fast.

I have both 86 and 88. I really like the feel of the 88 better. With the shorter swing arm it wheelies alot easier and the balance point is right there. Its just more fun to ride.

My Buddy Joe owned an 88 but he had an 86 lower end...supposedly the combination was suppose to give him more horse power but that 250 R was a dawg! He thought it was because I had a Paul Turner pipe and he was running an FMF...so we switched pipes and I stills left him in the dust. Everyone said it was the rider so I would ride his Quad and he would waste me hahaha So dont ever get fooled with this set-up!
