BigBaller, just to prove something, My 85 ATC250R had better handling(IMHO) than the 2 strokes of the 80's. So now imagine adding a 4th wheel, and thats the perfect handling bike with alot of power and INFINITE POTENTIAL!!!!! Thats why people love these quads

I really like the 86' model. Even though i've never driven or riden one. I heard that they were the best ones. They also look alot closly to the quadzilla in some kind of way.So i would go with the 86' then the 89' because I also heard that they were well built.

I owned a 87 and a 88 TRX250R and felt that the 88 handled better on mountain trails and the 87 was better in the dunes. Best year has to be the 88 as the 89 had white plastic, the 88 had red and everyone knows that red is faster. lol

I have a 86-87 and 88. Also my best friend has a 89 that I built a frame up for. I like the 88 tranny for the sand. the 87-89 had a stronger cilinder like ***** said. I didnt know about the timing diffenence on the fly wheel, but I run 89 cdi's on all of mine. Also the later models had a better frame and swing arm if you ask me. I like the way the hood lite looks but I like the way the bar lite peforms, meaning you can shine your lights with the bars and not have to point the whole bike to see something. they also changed something with the air boot but not shure what that was for. the motors were also painted different. I like the 88 _grey color. only the 88's were all red. I like those plastics. the front break lines were also updated a little better in 88. also in 88 the spindles are way better and lighter. dabeech was sure rite about the clutch part. got to get that needle bearing set up. works great. I'm sure we left something out. lol. missed this thred I was in glamis.HA HA HA HA

hell if we are going to get complex dont forget the rear seat latches are different as well. Also the front seat bracket bolts to the seat while the other year has the bracket molded into the seat pan. FYI...the front seat bracket is now D/C'ed. The 86-87 also has the weakest spindles.

Bansheesmoker - 88 motor is black with a raw jug, 86 is grey. I like them both ways!

I probibly asked this question before, but I'm askin again.

To reed spacer, or not to reed spacer? I've got the same set up on both bikes (86 and 88). 36mm PWK Quadvent carb,3/8
spacer, V-Force. I have no complaints about how either bikes run, just never ran without one.

what are the pro's and cons?

They lengthen the intake tract and raise crank case volume. Its more of a ridability mod not a hp mod.
