Default starter problems with 300ex

I have power to the starter and it spins. The gears seem to fit up to one another, but when i go to start it up, i get either a clunking noise from the case, or u hear the starter wind up and then clunk in.
all the gears seem to mesh properly but i cant figure out why their is this noise...

When you try to start it up does it turn over once and quit? If so it sounds like your starter gear is getting jammed up and not spinning the flywheel over proprely.

Your one way bearing has failed. There is a little band spring in them that break . It makes starting hit or miss. I think I might have a low mileage one at home Ill sell ya cheap.

The one way bearing is right under the flywheel. You have to pull the left side cover to get at it. I have been able to get the flywheel off with 3 jaw pullers but you could go to a shop and have them pop it off for you.

I read that the clip breaks off, and that you can put an ring in place of it...is this true?
I got the flywheel off, how do i get the one way bearing off of this...?

I got to the one way clutch off, but there is a wire type thing holding the bearings in place, it is however loose fitting...i dont see much wear, but if i manually turn the one way clutch against the gear, it will slip occasionally. What part do i need or can i fix this... The part one shop said i needed was about $150
Thanks....
