Can you give me detailed instructions on how to rig the lights on my rancher?

Has anyone thought of, or tried, mounting a headlight pod off of a 450ES on a Rancher? I don't know if this is even possible. Anyone?

You wanted detail’s you got it!
(This got to be a little more detailed then I planned sorry) This is based off the Rancher but should work the same for a Rubi or foreman
if you make sure you use the cigarette lighter auxiliary plug wires

If you want to install extra lights on your Rancher here’s what I did.
From the front end you look up under the hood you will see a series of wire plugs above the steering shaft. The one second in from the far right when you are facing the front of the quad is your cigarette lighter auxiliary power plug. it should have two wires(white with black strip) power and (green)ground. Trace the wires going up from the plug they should lead to the cigarette lighter auxiliary power plug-in on the outside of your quad. (You will need to take off the plastic shroud around your display to see and verify this) Once you are sure you have the right wires you can cut these wires about 2-4 inches out from the plug under the hood (make sure you cut on the end of the wire bundle plug that goes to the lighter auxiliary power plug-in. Then using regular automotive type butt connectors (blue 14-16 gage are best). Don’t use the kind of connectors that you clip over the top of the wire and press the metal piece in. use the ones with a hole that goes all the way through and you crimp at both ends. You can tap in, two new wires (make sure there long enough) these will feed power to your lights.

Strip the insulation off the ends (about ½ inch) and twisting on your new wires to the ends of the wires going to your cigarette plug-in.
Now depending on the lights your using, connect the lights power (+), To the power (+) (white with black strip wire) of your quads wiring and the ground (-) of your lights to the ground (-) (green) wire of your quads wiring. Now connect the wires coming from the wire bundle plug to the other ends of the connectors you just added. Now tape up the connector real good with electrical tape you want this water tight.

(you should end up with “two” wires coming out of one end of the connector and “one” wire coming out the other end (On both connectors) with the one wire end of the connector feeding right in to the wire bundle plug. make sure when you are connecting back the main wiring your colors match meaning green gets connected back to the green and white to white

Now just run your new ground wire to your light(s) you may have to splice this wire into two to make two grounds one for your light(s) and one for your switch. Then run your new power wire to a switch. Then you will need run another wire from the “power out post“ on your switch to your lights. “WALA LIGHTS”

Now test them, they should only work when the key is on if they don’t
check your wiring to make sure you don’t have them cross wired and then check your fuse it will blow in a hart beat if you got your wires crossed.

Oh now remember by doing this you are “decreasing” the power you can use out of your auxiliary plug when your new lights are ON. You are limited to 120 watts so if you add say a 65 watt light you can only use something that draws no more then 55 watts in your auxiliary plug
In other words 120 – 65 =55 this only applies when your using your new light(s). This circuit is run through a 15amp fuse so in the example above with a 65 watt light and using something that draws 55 watts in your auxiliary plug will be pushing it to the limit. So you have a good chances of blowing your fuse if you use the full 55 watts while using our light. I would recommend “not” using the light if you are using your auxiliary plug.

Happy lighting
