Reconranger hit it on the head, the big ones are not the best sellers. Ford Motor Co. back in the 1960's said, win on Sunday, sell on Monday, and it was not the big blocks they sold. So I do think being King helps the sales of others a bit.

You have to admit, it a lot of you could afford bigger ATV's, you might have bought one.

Default Quads for the Rich

I'm glad someone brought this up. I am young, and my immediate family doesn't have alot of money. When I walk into a delearship I feel like a peasant when I see all these guy's with new $45,000 trucks and SUV's, that have another $5-10K in mods, buying a brand new quad. I use to go get parts and while I was waiting, I would check out new quads. I felt like an idiot cause at the time I didn't have the money, and the salesmen treated me like a facking idiot. Well, when I finally got some money, I refused to buy from him. When I go riding, I feel inadequate when I see these people who have serious amounts of $$$$$, even though most of the time they are d!cks and I can ride better than them , but I feel like a POS compared to them. Oh well, guess that's what I get for not having rich parents.

another way to think about it as i have learned and am getting fed up with is the parts are soo much more for the more expensive bikes, then the smaller ones.

How this happens....

1) They actually make a lot of money and work hard (most in this case do not have the time for fun, to busy working)
2) They live off a trust.
3) They have all the goddies but also have 40-50k bucks in credit card bills (this happens to more than you think to).
4) Somebody just died.

supply and demand

atv's have been flying off the shelves for about 4-5 years now

manufacturers can charge what they want in this market,,,,,especially when they are coming out with new models all the time

Some of us who can afford the expensive quads (and other toys) are a heck of a lot older than 17. We've paid our dues. We worked hard, raised a family and now have some extra cash. We have also didn't have many expensive "toys" when were young. Instead we spent our money to get a good education and now have fairly high paying jobs. Just my two cents.

I guess I fall inbetween everyone--- I am out of the teenage years but in the pre-having-children years so I have some money to spend on a quad, go riding with my friends, and have a decent truck (used tho) .... I tried purchasing a used quad to save money, but ended up spending countless hours fixing it & then breaking something else major (I paid for problems). I did the economic analysis on it-- and figured that buying a new quad for about $5500 would "break even" with a used one of $2500 in about 3-4 years. I opted for the new one, sold the old one and purchased an 04 Foreman for about $5600 OTD. Honda is just the most reliable and the ES is awesome.

To answer the question-- yes, it is ridculous to pay $8500 for an ATV, but look at the money in that machine..... driveline parts, research, development, and testing, fuel injection, etc. I think an 800 efi could sell for around $6500 and be more reasonable, but the market value is much higher.

I wish are prices were similiar to yours in the States for an ATV. Just to give a few examples of MSRP in Canada. I am currently in the market for an ATV. 05 Kodiak 450 list price is 9100 plus taxes etc. Comes out to approximately 11000 dollars Canadian. Grizzly 10,400 before taxes. Honda Rancher 350 was 7899.00 before taxes. 400 Rancher was 8300 before taxes. I know our dollar is worth a little less than the US dollar ( about 85 cents US) but in our countries a dollar is a dollar regardless. I only wish we had those prices OTD up here. Just checked out a used 2002 Honda Rancher 4x4 ES. Wants 5100.00 then the government has to get their cut of the sale(tax).By the time you get it registered it is 5500.00. I do agree the prices on some are outrageous especially where I live(N.Ontario) but right now they are popular and they can charge whatever they want and people buy. I am starting to see similiarities with the snowmachine business of the 90's. It became very popular and the sleds in my part have become to expensive for the length of the season. Best bang for your buck is an ATV and if I had a choice between 10000 for a sled or an atv I will take the ATV. A view from North of the border.

Cycle trader magazine...Ebay....ATVtraderonline.com...atvtrader .com...I got my 2002 TRX400EX with 10 hours on the engine never raced, abused, etc... and got it for $3400 stock but with sand shark paddles on ITP rims used once! And the guy selling it was in my neighborhood! And in California, that is VERY cheap for that type of bike, keep your eyes peeled! Hey im 15 years old...so i know you guys can do the same as i did! If you teens wanna talk quads msg me on AIM ( Hyperguy050 ) or reply to this forum.
