Quads for the Rich

How much money is to much money for an all terrain vechicle. i understand a love for the sport (in this case mudding), but the msrp for these vechicles are getting outrageouss. 8600 for the new Polaris 800. Who has the money these days to support their family, pay bills, own a vechicle or two and on top of that afford an atv which costs nearly as much as a kia? This coming from a seventeen year old boy. One would think that a company would lose money producing such a machine in bulk without an overwhelming amount of consumer consumption. What is a reasonable amount of money to pay for an 05' model to this forum?

Your right, alot of atv prices are getting out of hand. But most people buy them just to have fun. My father bought a 04 Honda Rubicon in 03 because he needed something for his buissnes. He spent 8000 dollars because he needed the atv right away and got it that same day because there was a snow storm and he needed it to push snow on his sidewalks. But most of the people use atvs for recreational use. But prices are going up alot

buying for a work situation gives you a reason to buy a larger bore quad. but theres so many consumers out there who want these atvs for one reason. to have the largest atv on the planet. if you have eight an a half grand to throw around i suposse its worth it....not to many people do though

Honda is the top seller, and the Rancher is Honda's best seller. That should tell us quite a bit! While the companies do come out with expensive big bore machines (particularly utes) that the enthusiasts want, the average rider really just wants a mellow little machine to have fun on.
It use to be that the high performance sport machines were the big $$$$ items. It's pretty funny that now you can buy a top of the line sport performance bike for way less than a big ute.

I was at my local Yamaha/Suzuki/Polaris dealer the other day. Nice location too as it sits in the middle of one of our most upscale $$$ suburbs. Unfortunately I don't live there. But you're right about prices, they're huge. He had Yamaha sleds pushing $10,000. Some sort of hi-perf 1000cc 4 stroke race sled. Checked out the King Quad. About the size of a Jeep CJ with a price to match. I thought the thing may have even been too large for the trails I ride on. Still, if someone want s buy me the KQ and the sled, I'll accept the charity!!!

BigBaller, I am impressed, congrats on earning your own money, hats off to you.
Our friend just bought a 04 Rubicon for $600 less than we paid for our 01. He had a hard time spending $6k for an atv, it was his first.
When we get 10k on our Rubicon we will buy a new one, $8500 WOW, not here.

lately i've been wondering who is the sport of atving appealing to more the average american or the wealtheir of the middle class. with prices rising one would think the 2nd of the two. at my local dealer i've seen more suburban rich than rural citizens looking at todays quads.

its not that the sport of atving is more for the upper middle class, its just that they are the ones trying to prove something w/ the toys they have. You can buy a new 300ex for less than $4,000. I don't think that is too bad. I personally wouldn't spend more than $5,500 on a new atv.
