Old 250R Owner needs input?

I have ridden and owned quite a few fast two strokes and must say there is NO replacement for the rush they deliver. A friend of mine has a fast DS and is fun to ride, but I can't see myself on a 4-poke anytime soon. I have also ridden the new breed of 450's and feel they have their place......On a motocross track. We bought a new KFX400..........For my Wife to ride(Slow and comfortably)I recently went through my 250R with portwork, 39 pwk, ESR pipe, etc. and must say it's a whole new bike. My Zilla was extremely fast and loads of fun, but unfortunatly had to go. Will I buy a 4-poke to replace it? Nah. Probabaly build a full on drag Banshee!!

I say keep the 250R and save money as time goes to by a 450 HOnda or Yamaha. Build a shelf or rack for the R to sit on in the garage or shed block it off the wheels and let it set so if you want to ride one you have it. Its a LEGEND and is the best quad ever. I have rode all the new bikes, and the only one that compares to quickness is the Yamaha 450 and the Honda 450 compares in the plush ride. This is my feelings anyway. I dont think I can get rid of my R unless I was real hard up for some cash.

I am 32 years old and just started ATV riding in 1999 with a Banshee. Since then, after SEVERAL different quads I have settled on the Honda TRX250r. My new Yamaha YFZ sits in the garage or I lend it to my buddy when we go ride!! I love the 250r's ride, handling, power delivery, sound and smell. If I had to sell one right now it would be the YFZ. It is a great quad, has monster power and if I were riding for sponsorship I would be wise to ditch the R. But I just ride for fun (trails and "C" level GNCC), so my R gets the nod 90% of the time.

And they say the 250R is dead, I don't think so, at least by reading this thread it's not. Well I bought the 450R, and it is black and beautiful and fun to ride. I am happy with my choice, but I now know that I will never sell the 250R. In fact I am already looking for parts.

I just bought a 400ex after almost 20 years of 2 stroke heaven. No they don't have nothin for a 2 stroke. the raptor 660 is awsome to ride but still doesn't get it. The power is there but it comes on slow and predictable. I don't know about anyone else but I like the feeling of almost no torque or power and then all of the sudden your hang'n on for dear life. On a 2 stroke you can feel when your running out of power and grab some clutch then rip the rest of the way up the hill. The first time I climbed a hill on my 400 I was almost peaked and started losing power and clutched it, That was a very very wrong move, It dug in, then I saw the front bumper right before I was bucked off and watched, for the honest to god first time, my quad roll down the hill only to be stopped by a tree before falling off of a 10ft cliff to the stream below(I have never rolled a quad on a hillclimb). Luckily no major damage. I had to learn to ride all over again.
Alot of the stuff I did on my LT250R I can't do on the 400ex
ie:
Go from stopped to full speed in a very short distance.
Climb monster hills with no runway from a dead stop
Beat other 2 stroke quads in a race( I hunted banshees)
enjoy the smell of castor 927 burning
The Plus side.
Always has traction.
Real nice maybee even better for trail riding
Less shifting
way better gas mileage
easier to ride wheelies
I'm not as beat up when its time to load up
Alot of people will disagree with what I said but it's how I feel. I learned to ride when I was 8 on a 1981 CR80, Moved up to a 1987 YZ80 with 105cc Big bore kit, Then a 90 YZ125, a 93 RM125, a 90RM250, a 95 Blaster, a 86 LT250R, a 88 LT250R(severly modified), and now a 99 400ex.
For those of you that learned on a 4 stroke, If you ever had to switch to a 2 stroke you would probably hate it.
