Hey everyone, I know this might seem a little stupid but.. I don't know which I would prefer for MX Racing. My Banshee (below) kicks some major a**, but alot of people tell me to sell it and get an R. I really really like my shee though. I hope after I get my threaded dual rate works w/cans it will handle better. Does an R feel like the Banshee in terms of power/performance? I've heard that the R handles sooo much better than the banshee. I figure i could get at least $4,500 out of it.. maybe i'm wrong.. but maybe more. There's a guy that has an R for sale.. $2500. I think a friend of mine will get it.. but if he doesn't.. i'd look into it. It's messed up.. dosen't run very well. If I could get that much from mine, then pay 2500 or 2000 for it, then put some more mods on it, i'm sure it would be a better racer.. But anyway, tell what you guys think!!! later,

You're in luck, because I have ridden both so I can give you an honest opinion. 250R's definitely turn a lot faster and a lot more precise than the Banshee. I could not tell you the exact reason for this, but it is just a fact. Second, the powerband on the Banshee is very high rev so it is kind of hard to manage on a track. You have to use the clutch so much more than the 250R. Top speed, you can make a 250R just as fast as a Banshee. My 250R is a Banshee eater(but it is a 340). There is a weird thing about Banshee's too, every single one that I hear has a distinctive rattle. I don't know what it is but every Banshee has the same rattle. Anyway, go with the 250R and put a little money into it. It will definitely out run the Banshee on the track.

The Banshee rattle that you hear is the notorious Kick-starter rattle. A bushing wears out quickly and then it just sits on top of the starter output shaft and rattles like crazy.

Hey, Thanks Raychalp, I've heard that the R's powerband is kinda rolling...but when it hits, it hits hard. I know what you mean bout the banshee powerband.. I don't have the luxury of rich friends.. no one round here has an R.. lol. Yeah that banshee rattling bites.. but it happens to all of them.. just the kick starter. How much does a good 2 stroke pipe cost? Which kinda is the best for a 250R? Oh yeah, the PEP zps shocks are shot. I've heard them talking about them being the "cheap" peps. To me, no Pep's are cheap.. but Would it be better to get rid of them and get tcs' all the way around, or send them back to pep and get them re-valved?? Thanks,

Bash,

You from Hopkins County? I'm from Providence. You got you a nice Raptor there.

banshees eat butt on the mx track. they just weigh too much. Every single pro racer owns a 250r or maybe a 400ex. Obviously the trick to racing is not to ride a heavy bike that jumps like a pig. Banshees are the best drag/hill shooting bikes made but thats about it. Go get that R and pimp it out.

250r spanks them on the MX track. For power wise the Banshee top end screams, but the low end and mid really suck. The Banshees are front heavy and jump like a pig which makes you use more throttle and body english. The 250r's slide and jump excellent. The engines have great low and mid but the top end would never compare to a Banshee. You might want to think about a 330R kit from ct-pro-x at $1775, this will make your R scream.

As far as 250R pipes, I have used Paul Turner, FMF, Bill's and Dynoport. For low end the Bill's is absolutely the best by far with the FMF next in line. The Dynoport pulls the best from mid all the way to the top. The FMF is pretty much all mid range and the Turner I just hate. I can't even tell what it was. Anyway, you might want to try a Sparks pipe. I have heard that they are about the best, although they are pretty pricey. As far as the PEP shocks, the cheap ones would be not adjustable triple rates which are basically the same thing as a Works AT Steeler. They work OK, but lack compression and rebound adjustments. IF they are blown then you need to get a service which would probably be $150-$200 for the set.
