Default Web 463/9i Grind Cam

Im looking at replacing my Web 479 grind cam (.378 lift & 274 degree duration) with the new 463/9i grind cam (.385/.370 lift & 310 degree of duration).

Has anybody else made the switch? From the reading material, its supposed to give more top end power, but I am looking to find out how much more I will gain in the top end, and how much I will lose in the bottom end.

Thanks!

Going by the numbers you will gain substantial top end with the extra duration but give some on the bottom, it will also generate more heat. You might consider a larger oil cooler directly feeding the cam like the FST cooler set up.....

Mickey Dunlap at Four Stroke Tech would be the contact, EXRiders.com would be a good info source. The oil is rerouted from the oil pump through the cooler and directly to the head to feed the cam and top end cool oil. With your mods it would be a wise mod to make IMO....

Nevermind - I found them - Not too much positive things being said about them. I'm probably OK anyways I've got a huge oil tank with a cooler in it now. So far, I havent had any head damage so with just cams, I cant see it going over the top with a 440 bore.

Anybody else want to ring in?

..im not sure about the cam..but the FST cooler i would get..Iv ran one, buddy has..i dont think youll see any power, but oil should be a lot cooler...The cooler he uses is about 3 to 4 times bigger then the stock one and on a built motor i cant belive how hot that bigger cooler gets....well worth it..I mean if that bigger cooler is getting that hot, think how hot it gets w/out it?

The Cam, 460 Stroker Kit & Rod, & JE Superlight 12:1 Piston have been ordered. It should be ready to ride in two weeks with the new upgrades.

OregonDunePatrol, what made you go with a stroker crank and not just a bigger bore?.I think the ex has more then enoughf stroke,it neds more bore..longer stroke just revs slower..a larger bore will give a more mid top end power..
..also what have you done to the clutch/basket?..Iv had very good luck w/ the sparks set up with PE basket..

Here are my mods now ...

440 Bore JE 13:1 Piston
Web 479 Grind Cams
Web Shortened Valve Guides
Web Hardweld Rocker Arms
Web 1mm Oversize exhaust and intake valves
Lightened Flywheel
Head porting
Edelbrock 38MM "Doug Eichner" Carburetor
Motion Pro ¼ to full twist throttle
ACE Oversize Oil tank/cooler
Hinson Race Clutch/basket/springs
LTE Dual Exhaust

Since I am already at the 440 bore, it makes sence to me to do the Powroll stroker crank. That will take it to a 460. The JE 13:1 piston will be swapped out for the JE Ultralight 12:1 piston. The new piston, 463/9i cam, and lightened fly wheel will keep her quick.

Since the Hinson clutch has already been installed, and I have been running on it with the 440 bore for about a year with no slipping, I dont anticipate any problems. If there are, I will swap out the Hinson springs for the Barnet ones.

I just ordered the cam & Stroker parts yesterday.

As far as heat. I've been doing well with the ACE tank. I also run VP U4 - that fuel seems to keep her cooler, even with the 13:1 piston.
