I don't think it's lean, but on the contrary, rich. I had the same problem when I put an FCR 40 on my Z440, and it turned out that the needle was the cause of the whole problem. What clip is the needle on right now (from the bottom, or tapered side)?
I doubt the Zip-ty screw will do anything at all. I have one, and while it does make things easier, you won't see any change by buying this part.
I want you whole jetting specs...so far I've got- 180 main, 52 pilot (which sounds too fat to me), ??? on the needle and ??? on how many turns on the air/fuel screw.
Trust me, I've rejetted this carb about 500 times, on alcohol and gas, and once you get it figured out, you'll be happy you bought the carb.
BTW Tractorpacker- why did you pay $500 for the carb? FCR 40mm's can be bought for $340 from Service Honda...sounds like you got ripped....

Bulldogz you are right in line with what I have read in past postings about this same topic. Everything has been, it is too rich. I am going to get into my carb today. What is your carb set at - clip and air screw?

Wow, according to the computer the elevation of greenville illinois is only 500 feet!! I guess I have always assumed the further from the coast , the higher the elevation, but thats not the case!

Try moving the clip on the needle up one slot (meaning closer to the non-tapered side), this will lean it out. See if that has any effect, and then we can work from there.
Tuning from the needle is very easy too, because you can get to it from the top of the carb rather than haing to take off the intake boots and twisting the carb to get to the float bowl. Should only take you 15 mins to mess with the needle...

Sparks, which has one of the fastest EX's I've ever seen, (465), does not even run a 190 main on their FCR equipped EX, and trust me, that is no ordinary 465.
Not trying to start an argument, it's just that I have delt with this carb so many times, tuning on the dyno, etc, that I have a very hard time believing that a 190 main and 55 pilot will not be extremely rich.

i am with bulldog. the squirt from the accel. pump on the fcr 39 and 41's is too long for these bikes from what i have experienced. i decreased the squirt and got better results. i have a fcr 40 that the squirt is much less and seems to be fine.
