400EX Shocks
I have a set of Front Ohlins from my Speed. I now have PEP ZPS. I owned a 400EX before the Cannondale. The 400EX shocks would bottom out if I looked at them. The Ohlins would bottom if I went about 2-3 feet in the air. I weight 250ish. The Ohlins worked alot better when ridden at a faster pace. You can also have them rebuilt and rezzies and more springs.
Me I'd go for it. I've had both and liked the Ohlins better. Let me know if you need a pair.

400EX Shocks
I just got done installing 450R stock shocks on my 400ex.. they make a huge difference.. I took a jump that would normally bottom out my stock 400ex shocks and it handled the jump very good and didnt even come close to bottoming out.. I did alot of posting on the 450R shocks.. And alot of ppl said the front would work but not the back.. That is not true the back mounted up better than the fronts.. With NO mods to the back mounting area.. It does lower the bike about 2-3 inches though.. But it doesnt seem to matter.. I am still adjusting on them to dial them in.. A set of +1 A-Arms would make it even better.. Because the arms on the 450R are about +1 over the 400ex arms...
I know alot of ppl say they handle worse and arent made for the 400ex but they seem to be working great.. If handles sharper and smoother than the stock 400ex shocks. Plus the 450R shocks can be rebuilt(to tripple rate) and revalved..
