In my experiences, the 589 is a tougher tire overall than the lite. It weighs more and asks more of your drivetrain, but nothing gets you out of trouble like 589's. The Lites are awesome, no doubt and I'd buy them too.

The 589s just feel like their lined with steel.... I cant imagine what could poke through those. Even if it did, you can ride them pretty flat for a while if you go slow because of the rigid sidewall.
