Default 250R Headlights, What is everyone using?

I am interested in putting some type of headlight on my 1986 play/dune 250R and was wondering what everyone else is using. It has a stock stator and nothing else, I need to get a 12V regulator and switch setup... What wattage lights should I look for? 2-35W 50W 55W etc.

I have thought about using a stock 88-89 hood setup with a brighter bulb, Trail Techs, Home Depot's, Driving Lights (PIAA look-alikes), and even Lazer Stars but have some second thoughts. I only ride at night twice a year so I don't want to spend much. I am concerned with the reliability of the Trail Techs Driving lights, and Home Depot's, and don't want to pay for Lazer stars or Ricky Stator's. I will be able to build a Ricky Stator-Style mount for the Home Depot's, but aren't really sure about how well they will look or work.

Any ideas or recommendations?

I can't comment on any aftermarket stuff, but I've ran the stocker for years (Since new actually) and am fairly happy with it.
I only ride at night 1-2 times/year.. It works way better than my Suzuki lights (Even with rewound stator) or any banshee too...

My $.02

As far as looks go with what you like and what your pocket book holds. I can tell you for sure with a stock stator dont go with more than dual 35w bulbs or else you will get less light. I have always liked the stock setup. I still have the stock one on my LT250 and it lights up the night very well. The only bad thing is that they are harder to find for the TRX250R.

I'm completly refurbushing a 250R. We got some trail tech HID lites and attempting to mount them. HID lite use 35 watts each but put out brighter light. You have to put a floating ground in your stock stator. (Trail Tech has the printed instructions on how do do this.)

I also got a tiny lead acid battery to do some custom LED lighing for under the ATV. Should be cool if it works out.

It will be awhile before I get everything done and see how it works out. The engine is due back from CT racing next week, getting a 350 Power valve for it. Still have the frame to get powder coated so it will be awhile. Stay in touch if you don't figure something out.

I purchased some of the Trial Tech copys from Ebay for $30. I haven't mounted them yet but plan to fabricate a bracket to go on the studs just above the front shock mount. I did, however power them up and they seem really bright. They use the common H4 bulb the more expensive light use.

1989 Honda TRX250R- Undergoing A Facelift. Powdercoated Frame, ProPegs, Durablue Axle, Renthals, AC Bumpers, ESR TRX-5 Centermount, ESR head, SandTrix Portwork, 39 PWK Carb. Custom Black Wheels for the Sand, and a few other goodies!! Pics soon!!
Your doing alot of the same to your that I'm doing to mine. The AC Ners and Pro Pegs PWK 39 Carb.

We had the cases polished and ordered in some billet for the side covers clutch, stator and water pump.

We got a whole kit from Trail Tech that uses the YFZ450 handle bar and light mount. It fits however I will need to probably replace the steering stem as the billet mount on the old stem is not matching up good, kinda like a diamond sitting on a turd. lol

The HID lights are supposed to be up to 4 time brighter than Halagon. There was a guy on Ebay selling the Halagon Trail Tech kit but advertising it as the HID.

I already had the Pro Pegs, but the Porting, bored it ".080, 39 PWK, and the ESR pipe and head are new. I got to ride it for about 2 hours before the counter balancer literally exploded. That's what I get for not checking the bottom end out. I rode it long enough to make 4 YFZ450's look stupid, 2 of them with Hotcam's, pipes, etc! Should have it all back together this week. I can't wait!
