Rubicon vs. SP500 H.O. from all aspects
#12
My apologies. I just assumed the Rubi had the same front diffrential setup as the 300 I used to drive. Never drove the Rubi enough off road to find out for myself. Now I am disappointed. That was about the only reason I could think of not to get one. Now if I could only win the lottery...

No apology necessary. I have a 300 4x4 , too. You have a great bike in the 400 you have. The new HO and 700, if and when it comes out, will be make everyone improve, along with the new Kawa650 and the new auto tranny from Bombardier with no belt or hydromechanical drive.

Please go to the Polaris forum and read about the larger tire issue on SP500s. From all the posts over there I have read it is best to run thinner tires up front and not to go beyond a 27 inch tire. It looks like the front CVs are not very strong. Please note that I have just gathered this from reading their posts. Please go read them yourselves and ask them over there.

As far as Honda front differentials go, stock the AP is better, but a locked limited slip differential rules over the AP differential, I have seen this just about all times that a Rancher has really needed his 4wd, and it wasn't there, versus my Honda, or a buddies that is locked also make the same situation look easy.

I may not understand, but I like the push-button idea of locking the diff on the new Kawa 650. Being able to engage it only when needed and not being hard to do. And, the idea of the disc that is protected from the elements.

That Kawi does sound real nice.
2/4WD switch
Unique diff "hopfully switchable Locking diff"
engine braking
650 V-twin
It will really come down to that diff for me. I'd really hate it if I got stuck because of one spinning tire in the front while the other just sits still.
