I purchased a 1999 Recon the other day as a beginner atv for my wife. It has been sitting for about 4 years and would not crank. I started by changing the oil and gas. After that it would only run on starter fluid. I then pulled the carb out and took it apart and gave it a pretty good cleaning (lot of junk in there). I have put everything back together and it runs great if the choke is on - but as soon as I push the choke down it dies. If I give it some gas while pushing the choke down it runs but hesitates - when I let go of the gas it dies. Maybe something is not set back correctly???
Please help any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Charles

Most likely the pilot jet is still plugged. The hole thru the middle of the jet, is extremely small, and after its been sitting awhile, will probably need a small wire run thru it, to dislodge the crud. Check by looking thru the jet...if its clean, youlll see light thru it, like looking thru a straw.
The idle speed, could also be set too low, and/ or the mixture screw is too lean. Start with 2 turns out from lightly seated, on the mixture screw, and fine tune from there.
