electric starter

Well...no, not yet. Your results from the first test could also indicate a problem with the starter itself. You said the cellunoid clicked with the starter button, so it would appear the button circuit is OK. Isolate it completely by removing the big cables and do your continuity test again. Also, if the cellunoid is your problem, you should be able to engage the starter by shorting the big cables, and it's OK to try that, but keep in mind you'll get a big spark before the starter spins.

With the big cables removed, the continuity test resulted in an open circuit when the starter button was pushed. When I bypassed the solenoid switch by shorting the big cables, the starter engaged and the engine powered on.

I appreciate your help dzzy. Does this point to the solenoid switch?
