Default schreechin brakes

I went to the River Tue for a ride with my buds,,
We went about 50miles in the creeks and Wes Vaco trails.
About half way my rear breaks started making a loud loud schreechin sound.
I used the fronts the rest of the day....

This is a 03 Rancher 4x..... One felllow said I migh just have dirt or rocks on my brakes..
I need somebody to spoon feed me/ run me through a brake job.
Anybody got any time... I not much of a mechanic but need to learn about brakes.

Tks
Jack

Fatdaddy,

I just did this to my 2000 rancher, So maybe I can help. Your brakes for the rear are only on the right side.
Remove the right rear tire and rim. You will see the black hub cover and 6 bolts holding it on and in the center you will see a big nut with a cotter pin. Remove the cotter pin, nut and 6 bolts and you can pull the cover off. (you may need a flatheaded screwdriver to pry it off from its seal. Be easywith it.)

ok, now your looking at the outside of the drum(alumium color) It should pull off with a hard pull. If not you will need to back off on the butterfly nuts on the back where your brake cables come in to the lever, this will relieve the presure of the pads off the drum.

with that removed check for durt, mud, water that may have gotten in there and check the thickness of pads ware. Clean everything out if dirty and out lite grease on the pivit points.

Then reassemble.

I hope didn't miss anything If your have more questions just ask.

Mike

I almost forgot, if water and mud got in there you need to figure out how.

You may have a bad seal or a seal was not geased properly.
Look for tears and dry o rings.
