Default 450R HRC Kit

I've been thinking about getting the HRC kit for my 450R.

Does anyone know how easy (or difficult) it would be to add this modification to my quad at home?

I've done everything but the cam, and it took less than an hour. Cam would depend on your ability.....

I did the airbox mods, 2 inch end cap on the muffler and rejetted the carb with a friends help. We also installed a Stage II Hotcam. My 450 now rips! It is not that hard to install the cam, at least with a Hotcam, it is a drop-in with no valve spring or rocker changes necessary. You also don't have to "fine tune" the cam. You can check your valve adjustment but they should remain fine.
I don't know how much they want for the HRC kit now, but when I bought my 450 a year ago they wanted $300.00 for the kit and $300.00 to install it. I did everything to mine for $145.00.

Well, I've got the tools, but don't necesarily have the know-how... (I'm talking about the cam).

If I do end up getting the HRC kit, I'd also get the 450R shop manual; still, if anyone knows of a website that gets posted on how to change the cam on a 450R, I'd greatly appreciate it.

All this can wait a few months of course, I mean I'm still getting used to my new quad and it hauls enough *** in stock form for now.

It's just that we're planning a big family trip down to San Felipe next July, and I have a cousin who's been threatening to smoke me with her (yes, her...) Raptor 660 on that trip.

I think lots of you will agree - this must not happen.

Unless she's built her Raptor, it won't happen with your stock 450R!
Get a shop manual and you can change your own cam.

Go to www.trx450r.org and there you will find a 20+ page installation on the HRC kit including the cam installation. It is a very detailed report....

the whole kit including the cam took me about 2 hrs to do. you will need the honda manuel. the instructions that came with the kit say "install cam. see shop manuel" thats it for instructions on the cam. it is a great kit and the hrc cam is as good a it gets. if you want a VERY GOOD option, the stage 2 hot cam, drill the tee valve, cut or remove the lid, and get the HRC, sparks, or dyna jet needle, and get a slipon exhaust. even with the HRC kit you will probley change the exhaust latter. this route will save you money but im glad i got the hrc kit. its all HONDA as for a dealer fine tuning the cam, not likley, both cams are drop in cams and requier extra parts and alot of knowhow to degree in.

Thanks for your responses guys. Also, thanks for the reassurance Red400EXRod - I know I'll get a better night's sleep after what you said.

I had to hunt around a bit to look for the Step-by-Step HRC Kit Installation webpage, but finally found it. Here's a link to it in case anybody else is interested in checking it out:
