Default 400ex noise and changing the oil

Ive ridden my new 400ex about 4 1/2 hours now, and I was wondering if i should change the oil now or wait till the 10 hours. And do I have to change the oil filter this soon along with the oil? Also, every time I go to start my bike when its cold it will start, run for about 3 seconds, then stall. When I go to start it again it takes about 10 tries before it will fire up and idle, is this normal? And one more questioin, theres like a light grinding/rattling noise coming from the engine when its revved up and moving quickly, is that anything to worry about? Sry for all the questions, i cant stop worrying about this bike.

well, as far as your starting question goes -- you cant just start it and let it idle on the choke.. ::: start it on full choke with a light rev. for 3 seconds. then turn to have choke and continue to rev. lightly for about 15 secs then flip choke comp. off and rev. for another 2-3 secs now it should idle by itself with no choke.
you can change your oil now if you want... but i would also do it again at the 10 hr. mark ... you dont have to change the oil filter this tiem around..but at the 10 hr. mark i'd definetly change them both, and then every 15 hrs after that is my usual.

Well for the grinding noise did you run it hard straight out of the box b/c your not supposed to you are supposed to get at least 5 tank fulls of gas burned in it and not running it hard eather but not babying it this gives your ex time for the valves and the piston and everything else to seat properly I would me a little worried about it b/c you might have jumped time a knotch and your piston is hitting your valves NOT GOOD at all!!! this problem set me back $300 and i found the problem out farly quickly!

As for the oil is best to change it now also change the filter it needs to be changed every 5 tanks of g

I don't think you have jumped timing. The 440ex is a noisy motor. As far as breaking it in, you don't have to ride it easy for 5 tanks of gas.
Break it in like you're going to ride it. If that's hard riding, break it in that way.
I would change your filter every time you change your oil. Do it now at 5 hours, then again after ten more, then just do it at a regular interval, 20 hours or so. The 400ex is a great machine. Keep up on the maitenance, oil change & air filter cleaning and it will run forever.

Ive taken it pretty easy on it since ive gotten it, but not exactly babied it either. The noise isnt that bad, I cant really explain it. The best way I can is like a raspy noise, not really a grinding. Maybe its normal, I dont know.

The 400ex has a noisy top end. You're probably just hearing the valve noise. Kind of a rattling sound.

The reason to change your filter is that it will have collected a bunch of metal fileings that come out of your transmission. If you think metal fileings clogging up your filter is a good thing, well then don't bother changing it! But, if you are so worried about this machine, seems like you would want to err on the side of caution???

The reason I was asking if I should change the filter is cuz it was a sunday, no places were open that had filters, and I wanted to ride. Well I changed the oil today and I didnt find any metal filiings at all, in the oil or the filter. Are tehy not usually visable or what?
