Default clutch question / problem

I recently purchased an 88' CR500, I know this IS THE ATV section but if someone could give a little help, i'd really appreciate it. and after all, it is still a honda. Well, the bike is really clean and the guy i got it from said it had a rebuilt motor, from top to bottom. When I got it, the clutch was super hard to pull in. I have rode it for like a week and then the pulling the clutch lever in got weak, then with the clutch lever in the bike would still grab a tiny bit when revving it. Does is need a new clutch? i am not that experiened with clutch problems....sometimes when I pull it in there is good resistance on the lever and sometimes not. anyone know whats goin' on?

Default clutch question / problem

....also when I ride it for a few minutes, the top of the engine smokes alittle around the front gasket where the head cap is seated on the cylinder? Looks like it might be burning sumthing off, like radiator fluid? is this a problem? thanks for your time.
