I don't know if this is normal or not (don't remember having lines of gas when I rode wheelies on our 250X), but it sounds like you are getting too much fuel flowing into the carb while the front end is in the air, thereby flooding the bowl and causing overflow.

Try checking the float height and make sure it is properly set.
The water thing, I have no idea about.

Check your fuel line and your carb. You might need a line or a rebuild.

First off .. you shouldn't be riding wheelies in the street .. that'll get you more trouble than a leaking carbeurator.

The gas is most likely coming from your overflow hose because of the angle of the quad ... and it may end up sticking a bit or pooling up on your frame to drip off after you have stopped, which is why you can smell is strongly even after you have stopped riding.

I have no clue about the water either .. that seems really weird unless by "a couple inches above the frame" you mean up to the seat .???

Hey I had the same problem with my 1988 250x and i rebuilt it and it still dont it so I went and bought a new one if you aregoing to do this for a stock one witch u pretty much have i would go witha 32mm mikuni flat slide there great. It might run alittle different like boging alittle when you first get if you keep on the rpms it will do just fine. on the stock carb there is an accelorator pump pushing gas in to the motor with the flat slide its sucking the gas out of it.

1988 250x
big bore kit
VP race fuel
proformance cam (great)
proformance valves
ported and poliched
uni air filter
new timing chain
ITP holeshot tires
AC nerf bars
34mm mikuni carb
lone str axle carrier
FMF mega max pipe
fly handle bars
AC grab bar
13:1 compression
14 tooth front sprocket ( never happier with it)
Mods coming soon
( lonestar axle +2 with hubs)
( Lonstar stearing system)
( DG front bumper)

RIGHT BESIDE THE STOCK 400EX

The gas coming out is normal, the float opens up and then the fourwheeler gets too much gas and at that angle it will run out. The water issue i have had too. There is a splash guard its call above the shocks under the front headlight. If urs doesnt have it a small puddle will cause water to splash through the intake tubes on the frame and get in the airbox. All the splash gaurd is, is a plastic piece with rubber flaps on the back ,so if it isnt on u probably put it on.
