250EX no spark
What year is it?
How the the spark plug cap look? Is the cap, screwed tighly to the wire? If you take the cap off, and just hold the wire 1/4 inch from the head, and someone spins over the motor, do you get spark then?
Im using a service manual from a recon, but im thinking for this, the motor and ign system are the same.

This is a 2003 250EX Sporttrax.
How the the spark plug cap look?
I don't understand this question exactly. It is a RED cap....it connects to a black wire. The cap has a bend in it where the wire joins it. The spark plug wires runs about 12-15" to a "coil" looking device with two wires on the back of it and one (ground?) wire connected to the frame mount bolt.

No spark. I took off the RED cap, and held the black wire 1/4" from the plug...nothing.

Thanks much for this help. I don't have a service manual so am struggling.

The next steps are kind of involved. The clymers I have , says to use a peak voltage tester, or the peak voltage adapter from honda for the checks. On all the other quads I worked on, they ask for resistance readings, and not peak voltage. They also say the volt meter should have a minimum 10 M ohms of impedance.
They list the ign coil , the exciter coil, and ign pulse generator as the next three items to check.
Im not sure how you want to go...youll need the special adaptor, and probably should get the clymers book. Check out the local library, itll be in the 629.28 area of non fiction, if its not there, then youll probably have to buy one.
You could try looking over the connectors, and make sure they are corrosion free and dry, and making good contact.
Check over the fuses as well.
